On-Air Personality

Rufus T. Raspberry is a full-time chicken farmer and part-time radio extraordinare! He's been part of the Thunder morning show for over 15 years! He's never been one to mince words--he says he's "a talker with an opinion," which is sometimes hillarious! You really don't want to miss the show between 6-8am because you never know what he's going to say!

I got my start in radio by accident in 1988 in Clay County when I was handed a microphone in the 2nd quarter of a high school football game and the rest as they say is history. I did radio part time for 10 years covering sports for the most part and then went full time raido in 1998 with Alabama 100 in Anniston. I've progressed from part time on air to operations manager and morning show host and it's been a great ride.

I DJ'd part time for Birmingham stations for 10 years, starting with an oldies station and then moving to country. Radio is my passion! I absolutely eat, sleep and dream radio. I love it!  Good times by Alan Jackson has been my theme song for a while. But I was definitely a rocker growing up with The Beatles, Kansas, Yes, and Stix. In my humble opinion, country music today is a lot like rock-n-roll was in the 70s. Regarding new groups, I really like Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, and Lady Antebellum. Older acts I like include Brad Paisley, Trace Adkins, Alan Jackson, George Strait and Alabama. I really can't mention them all. I am a people person--that is I love watching people and interacting with everybody. I always try to make for a great time, wherever I am.  Truth is always stranger than fiction, listeners are quite often funnier than I am, and I am not afraid to exploit that.
